Productive Learning
Productive Learning is based on the alternative education programs started in the USA at the beginning of the seventies, such as the City-as-School in New York. Similar schemes were started in Europe during the eighties, such as the Lycée Autogéré (Paris Self-Managed Institute), set up in 1982, or the Stadt-als-Schule (City-as-School) in Berlin, which started working in 1987 and that has been a model to follow for many similar enterprises. The main promoter of the expansion was the Institute for Productive Learning in Europe (IPLE), from Berlin, founder of the International Network of Productive Schools (INEPS), in 1990. Nowadays, Productive Learning is efficiently used in many institutions around the world, even within the state compulsory school. Around 50 educational institutions of 16 countries are cooperating within the INEPS framework. INEPS is constantly experimenting, improving, promoting the Productive Learning methodology, and organising congresses, conferences, training seminars, exchanges between educators and students, and international partnerships as well as other activities. In our country, the Vilafranca del Penedès City Council, one of the INEPS founders, set up the training program known as Layret TV (1990-1996), the first Productive Learning program ever used in TV production. The Productive Learning Institute (IDAP) was founded in 1994 as a result of this successful pilot project. As a result of the creation of the Technologies Centre Vilafranca Virtual, IDAP acquired much better equipment getting the centre able to offer a broader range of specialised training.
